lyrics

when the last light
went off on me
i was left stood in the dark
i stayed there till dawn
with the wind's lonely song
i won't back down just yet
i'll be by the stall
till they drag me away
leave a thought if you're passing through
i always said i would be
and look at me now
i was the last to leave

some poor homeless kid
pulled a lamp from the dirt
then he smiled like a little child
and the rats sniffed the air
the cold is coming now
you'd be better to find somewhere to hide
they're closing me down
my time is running short
i'll be stood by the arcade wall
i always said i would be
and look at me now
i was the last to leave

i used to be a man of prayer
but for me things have changed
i don't think like that anymore
i don't think there's a plan
or a right way to be
there's just greed and there's all that you can grab
and the birds have flown south
and the spring has turned to stone
and the bloom is just a fading thought
i always said i would be
and look at me now
i was the last to leave
